‘The Oakgrove Olympics’ has become an annual event on our school calendar.
The Oakgrove Olympics brought together 100 primary school pupils from local primary schools to take part in a one day Olympic and Paralympic event. Pupils were mixed into groups to represent different Countries each with their own leaders who guided them and encouraged them throughout the events. The pupils took part in an opening ceremony, were they paraded behind their countries flag to the track. They then got to participate in sprinting, throwing and jumping events and also got the chance to try out a Paralympic activity in the wheelchair race. Pupils then got to experience a team event in the Olympic Hand Ball blitz.
Through ‘The Oakgrove Olympics’ pupils had the opportunity to learn about the Olympic and Paralympic values which their leaders introduced to them. They got to experience what it feels like to represent a team, take part in Olympic & Paralympic sporting events and develop their self-esteem.
