Oakgrove Invitational Cross- Country Races – Wednesday 23rd November 2016
51 runners raced for Oakgrove College at our annual Invitational Cross-Country Races. It was good to see so many of them win medals or achieve personal best times against the other local schools.
Year 8 Team captain Carly Chestnutt ran a great race to finish 9th.
The Year 8 Boys Captain, Oliver Reid picked up the first medal finishing in a magnificent 5th place. Sean Paul Cullen was unlucky to finish just outside the medals as they both led a good Year 8 team performance.
Grace Donaghy out-sprinted Amy McIntyre to the finish line but both girls picked up medals in the Year 9 race. The Boys weren’t to be outdone as Aaron McLaughlin (4th) and Oran Brown (6th) also picked up medals. Reece Pollack was unlucky to finish just outside the medals in 9th.
The Year 10 girls ran well despite not picking up medals but they had strong opposition from St Cecilia’s, Thornhill and Lumen College.
The star of the day was Sam Cole who picked up 2nd place in an exciting Year 10 Boys race. His team helped back him up and a special mention should go to Ciaran Dromgoole who finished 8th.
The Intermediate Girls (Yr11 & 12) brought good runs from Dion Watson (8th), Chloe Lynch (9th) and Gabriele Zalpyte (10th).
Fionn Breslin finished 3rd in the best race of the day, the Intermediate Boys. Sean Straw came 6th to pick up the 8th and last medal of the day for Oakgrove.
Well done to all our runners. Training re-starts next Monday after school.
